I guess part of it is I'm not a great salesperson and don't know how to break into some areas… like how do I approach a magazine to start writing a column, or what options there even are for working more on human rights issues.

I'm thinking too much and not "getting out there".

As I'm writing this I'm of course realising I should be using more of my UX expertise to approach all of this… d'oh
