I think it's important for more people to acknowledge that innovation can lead to both progress and regress.
Innovation can also lead to slow-down and stagnation, even if it does not lead us backwards.
When we understand that innovation is not always a net positive, society is in a better position to question the unfounded promises of tech overlords and politicians.
Innovation is not the same as boosted efficiency. And innovation is not the same as "better for everyone".
I believe a core challenge is a broad lack in ability to establish clear visions for ourselves and our communities, visions that would allow us to more easily recognise if we are moving in the desired direction. And if we are being helped or hindered in walking that path.
Instead we adopt the visions of far-away people who do not know us or understand our context. Helping them realise their vision at the expense of our own.
